The modernization achieved by this GLBA was tearing down the more than 70 year old barrier banks, insurance companies and securities brokers. Now each can enter the others industries.

Mindful of the potentially staggering amounts of data that a banking-insurance-securities entity might be able to collect and share about its customer, congress added Title V to GLBA: Privacy-Disclosure of NonpublicPersonal information.

The very first words in Title V are: its is the policy of the Congress that each financial institution has an affirmed contunuing obligation to respect the privacy of its customers and to protect the security and confidentiality of those customers nonpublic personal information.
